I-HELP
(Interfaith Homeless Emergency Lodging Program)

The Mission of I-HELP Monterey:
To be a leader in ending the cycle of homelessness or violence by providing safe housing, compassionate support, and opportunities for self-sufficiency through outreach, emergency shelter, transitional housing, and supportive services.

On the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 6:00pm, the Outreach committee hosts the local I-HELP homeless men with a dinner and place to stay for the evening. If you would like to help cook, serve, or setup, please contact the church office for more information.

Scholarships
Every Spring since 1989 the Methodist Foundation of the First United Methodist Church has offered Scholarships to "Christian" graduates of the four public high schools on the Monterey Peninsula. The Scholarship Committee actively solicits applications from high school seniors for one of our $1000 awards.
To qualify, each applicant is asked to write two 500 word essays on "The Meaning of the Christian Faith in My Life" and "My Education and Life Goals." They must also be active in a Christian Fellowship, have a grade point average of 3.0, be active in curricular activities and community service. They must also plan to attend a four-year academic college, a two-year vocational school, or a community college. The deadline for applications is normally March 25th.

Donations to the Foundation have made possible 88 Scholarship awards to Christian High School Seniors living on the Monterey Peninsula. The 88 Scholarships equal $44,000 that these students have been able to apply towards the ever increasing college expense.
